Connect With the Classics for Maker March: Frankenstein In-Person

For Maker March, we're discussing Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, a novel about a  creator who uses scientific ingenuity to make life. (In today's AI-driven world, this might sound familiar.) It explores the ethics of creation  and a maker's responsibilities to their creation. It asks: Is innovation inherently good, or does it require ethical limits? You've seen the films, and perhaps the parodies (  “It’s Fronken-steen!"); we'll read the original 1818 text to get the story from Shelley herself. As always,    this is about good books, interesting ideas, and most importantly,  good company — we'll approach the book from wherever we are and see where the discussion takes us.

We'll need at least two registrations to hold the discussion, so we strongly encourage you to register. (You can always cancel if you won't be able to join us.)  Copies of the book are available for checkout at the first floor service desk. (Note: if you search for the book in our collection, look for the 1818 text, not the 1831 revision.)
