Intro to Sewing: Know Your Machine In-Person
In this session, we’ll demystify the knobs, levers, and bobbins. We will cover:
- The Anatomy of Your Machine: What all those buttons actually do.
- Threading 101: Mastering the upper thread and the (often elusive) bobbin.
- Needles & Tension: Choosing the right tools so your fabric doesn't snag.
- Stitch Selection: When to use a straight stitch versus a zigzag.
- Basic Maintenance: How to clean out the lint and keep things running smoothly.
What to Bring:
- Your Machine: Please bring your own sewing machine (and power cord!). Learning on the equipment you’ll use at home is the best way to build muscle memory.
- The Manual: If you still have it, bring it along! If not, don’t worry—we’ll help you find a digital copy.
- Curiosity: No prior sewing experience is required.
Note: We provide the "practice scraps" and basic thread, so you don't need to worry about ruining your favorite fabric while you learn!
