Classical Music with Dr. Derald DeYoung

Classical Music with Dr. Derald DeYoung In-Person

Learn about the life and music of formidable pianist, conductor, and composer Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1942). Rachmaninov is remembered as the last truly great composer in the Russian Romantic tradition, and his music is melodic and accessible to all.

This free-six week course is taught by Dr. Derald DeYoung and will give an overview of his compositions using video performances of world-class soloists and orchestras. No previous musical experience is necessary. Dr. DeYoung is a Professor of Music Emeritus from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, where he taught for 27 years before moving to Estes Park full-time in 2005. Over the past 18 years, Dr. DeYoung has been leading music study courses that have covered the compositions of Stravinsky, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Strauss, and many others.

The series will be offered on Tuesdays beginning January 14 through February 18. Participants may choose to register for a morning (10 AM-12 PM) or afternoon (1-3 PM) session. The morning session will be offered in person and on Zoom; the afternoon session will be offered in person only. Once you register for the first week, you will automatically be registered for all six weeks of the course.
