Young Chautauqua Club: Kickoff Party! In-Person
What is Young Chautauqua and how can YOU be a part of it?
Imagine impersonating a person in history: speaking in their very words, while dressed in costume, before an audience and then taking impromptu questions as your character. Young Chautauqua is an opportunity to learn about a person you admire or are curious about, and share your findings with your community. Sixth grade teacher and acting coach Katherine Dumont has facilitated this exciting program for over eight years!
Young Chautauqua requires a significant commitment of time, study, and practice; in return, you'll have an amazing experience in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Participants begin by selecting a person they admire or are curious about. Then, research your muse, learning about their history and accomplishments, while comb through closets or visiting thrift shops to create a costume. Finally, memorize and rehearse a presentation as your character. The program series ends with performances, all of which are open to the community. We'll gather to enjoy and celebrate your great work!
This program is recommended for youth ages 9 and up, and adults are encouraged to join in, too! More information can be found here.
