Access Granted In-Person
Are you accessible in an emergency?
In Colorado, we often ponder “the worst” regarding wildfires, floods, and other catastrophes. Many folks have a “to-go” kit of important documents, keepsakes, medications, etc. in case of emergency.
Many of us have considered what to take with us if we need to leave quickly, but have we considered if we are accessible in an emergency when we can't leave?
Imagine you are home alone, have double vision, and are very wobbly on your feet. You take a seat and dial 911. The operator answers, asking for your address, and you hear yourself respond with very slurred speech. You start to panic because clearly, something is wrong. The operator tells you they are sending help and asks if the front door is unlocked. It is not, and you can't safely make it to the door.
This situation sounds scary, doesn’t it? Estes Park Emergency Communications Center has created the Access Granted program to encourage folks to provide door codes, hide-a-key locations, or other access information before an emergency happens. This information is only shared with responders as needed and will only be used for emergency purposes.
Staff from the Estes Park Communications Center will present how the program works, the benefits for citizens and provide information on how to get signed up.
