Craft & Hobby Live: Hemming with Your Serger with Katrina Walker

Craft & Hobby Live: Hemming with Your Serger with Katrina Walker Online

Join Katrina Walker for this live event! She’ll take the fear out of learning all what your serger can do. Don’t be intimidate by all those threads, knobs and buttons, learning about your serger is easy and fun with Katrina walking you through every step, button and knob.

Once you learn how to use your serger, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Since its introduction to the home sewists in the 1980’s sergers have become the workhorse of the sewing room. Using your serger as a companion to the sewing machine will elevate any sewn project to a finished, professional look. Your serger will make quick work on time consuming tasks such as hemming, seam finishes and other details. You’ll learn to make the most of your serger and start applying smart techniques to create beautiful projects with a professional touch.

About the Artist:

Katrina Walker is a sewing industry educator, author, and designer. She had the good fortune to be raised by a mother who sewed, and grew up with it as just one of those things you did when you wanted something special to wear - or were snowed in during the winter! Later in life as a fresh college graduate entering the world of corporate finance, sewing became an essential skill to provide her tall frame and limited budget with high-quality professional clothing. Then she had a career change into youth development and education, which included teaching sewing and textile arts to 4-H youth, adults, and high school students. From there she entered into corporate fashion, working in the apparel industry for Nordstrom Product Group and REI.

During her time at Nordstrom she won the Adult division of the national Make it With Wool competition, and through a series of yet more life changes found herself able to pursue a career as a professional sewing educator. That was almost 20 years ago! She has the incredible good fortune of working with thousands of wonderful sewing enthusiasts worldwide every year.

As a sewing professional, she is known for expertise in construction techniques, textiles, sergers (overlockers), machine embroidery, and Modern American Pojagi piecework.  Her work is regularly featured in sewing magazines including Threads, Creative Machine Embroidery, SewStylish, Stitch, SewNews, and SewItAll, and she recently published Serger 101: A Field Guide.  As a popular instructor at sewing shows and sewing guilds, and online where she teaches for Sulky, Craftsy, Sew Daily TV, Taunton Workshops, Fabric Mart, Creative Spark, and STITCHES at Home. She is a national educator for Husqvarna Viking and PFAFF sewing machines, a PFAFF Brand Ambassador, and a Sulky Sewcialite. When not sharing the love of sewing, she can be found raising natural colored wool for my Spoiled Sheep yarn and fiber business.
