2024 Classical Music Class
Richard Strauss (1864-1949)(NOT Johann Strauss, the Waltz composer)
Richard Strauss is one of the most celebrated of the post-Romantic German composers. His symphonic Tone Poems have become an indispensable part of the modern Symphony Orchestra repertory. Our class will explore these colorful and exciting orchestral masterpieces, each of which has a story to tell. In addition to learning about his life, he was a contemporary and friend of Gustav Mahler, we will also introduce excerpts from a few of his 15 Operas plus other important works.
