Young Chautauqua

Young Chautauqua In-Person

What is the Young Chautauqua?

5th GradeTeacher  and acting coach Katherine Dumont has facitltated this exciting program for over 8 years! Imagine inhabiting a person in history -- speaking in their very words -- in costume -- before an audience and taking impromptu questions as them!

How can I be a part of it?

Young Chautauqua requires a significant commitment of time, study and practice from youth aged 9 and up. In return you'll have an amazing experience in a fun and supportive atmosphere learning about and identifying with a person in history. Participants begin by selecting a person whom they admire or are curious about. Then they research their muse and comb through closets or visit thrift shops to create a costume. Finally, they work to memorize  and rehearse their speeches and writings. The program series ends with performances open to the community to enjoy and celebrate the great work!

Adults are encouraged to join in too!
